Are all blood banks and camps required to be licensed?
Yes. Under Pakistan’s safe blood transfusion laws and provincial acts:
· Any place that collects blood from donors, tests, stores, processes, or transfuses blood or blood components is required to be licensed by the relevant authority.
· This applies to:
o Hospital‑based blood banks (public and private).
o Stand‑alone or regional blood centers.
o NGO‑run and charitable blood banks.
o Mobile donation setups and camps (they must operate under the license of a parent blood bank, not independently).
Unofficial, unlicensed centers and informal “camps” are not allowed and may be unsafe.
