Can I donate if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Pregnant women should not donate blood.

During pregnancy:

·       Your body works hard to support both you and the baby.

·       Blood volume and iron needs are higher than usual.

·       Donating could increase the risk of anemia and complications.

After childbirth:

·       Many guidelines recommend waiting at least 6–12 months before donating, especially if you had heavy bleeding or a C‑section.

·       If you are breastfeeding, some centers will still defer you until you are further along in recovery or have weaned, to protect your iron stores.

Always inform the blood bank if you are pregnant, have recently delivered, or are breastfeeding. They will advise when it is safe to donate again.
