Who is responsible for regulating blood banks in Pakistan?

In Pakistan, blood banks are regulated at both federal and provincial levels:

·       The National Blood Transfusion Programme (NBTP) under the Ministry of National Health Services sets overall policies and strategic direction for safe blood transfusion.

·       Each province has its own blood transfusion authority (for example, the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority (SBTA), Punjab’s blood transfusion services, etc.) that is responsible for licensing, inspecting and monitoring blood banks in that province.

·       In Islamabad Capital Territory, the Transfusion of Safe Blood Ordinance and related authorities oversee blood services.

Any blood bank operating legally should be under the supervision of one of these bodies.
