The Punjab government has introduced incentives to encourage police employees to participate in voluntary blood donation, offering donors a certificate of appreciation, a Rs1,000 cash reward and one day of leave.
According to an official circular, the initiative is part of a broader province-wide campaign aimed at increasing voluntary blood donations and strengthening access to emergency blood supplies. Police officers have been encouraged to register as voluntary donors during a one-month blood donation registration campaign being conducted across Punjab.
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority has also established a virtual blood bank through helpline 15, allowing citizens in need of blood for patients to seek immediate assistance. Registered donors can be connected with people requiring blood during medical emergencies.
Virtual Blood Bank Expands Across Punjab
Under the initiative, citizens who donate blood will receive a community certificate from Punjab Safe Cities. Authorities also plan to appoint virtual blood bank ambassadors in every district to raise awareness and encourage greater public participation.
The awareness campaign is expected to expand to colleges and universities, with the aim of motivating young people to become regular voluntary blood donors.
Officials said the virtual blood bank has already helped citizens arrange blood in more than 72,000 cases. More than 133,000 blood donors have also registered with the Punjab Safe Cities virtual blood bank.
The initiative is expected to improve emergency access to blood while promoting a culture of voluntary donation across Punjab. By encouraging police personnel, students and the wider public to register as donors, authorities aim to build a stronger and more responsive blood donation network across the province.
